Australia-Middle East Journalism Exchange
In 2017, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of five university students taking part in the Australia-Middle East Journalism Exchange. As part of the program, we visited Qatar and Jordan, where we made working visits to newsrooms, educational centres and cultural institutions in order to enhance our understandings of the region and to help us create better informed journalism in the future. We also attended a day-long academic workshop on the Middle East, which equipped us with a deeper understanding of the ways in which the media functions in Qatar and Jordan, as well as a brief introduction to its history.
Whilst overseas, each of us worked on developing our own piece of long form journalism. My piece, which was a radio story, focuses on the work of NGO’s within Zaatari Village, Jordan. You can listen to the piece here.
